报告人简介:

Dr. Kimura is head of the Endocrinology Section, Laboratory of Metabolism, National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health. She obtained her PhD in chemistry from Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan, and did postdoctoral studies first at Queen’s University in Canada, followed by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health. She has been interested in the homeodomain transcription factor NKX2-1, which is essential for organogenesis of lung, thyroid, hypothalamus and pituitary. NKX2-1 is one of the critical markers heavily used in the clinic to diagnose lung adenocarcinomas. Using Nkx2-1-knockout and conditional-knockout mice that her laboratory produced, they study the role of NKX2-1 in thyroid regeneration and stem cells. Recently they found a novel cytokine secretoglobin 3A2 as a downstream target of NKX2-1 in lung, which she is going to discuss today. She published more than 200 papers in endocrinology, pharmacology, and lung development and carcinogenesis. She is co-inventor in three US. patents for use of secretoglobin 3A2 as a therapeutic to treat various lung conditions, including cancer.
