Introduction to the speaker:
Dr. Zhang graduated with a B.Sc. in Biology/Zoology (1995) and a M.Sc. in Physiology/Pharmacology (1998) from Sun Yat-Sen University. Dr. Zhang joined the Montreal Heart Institute (Canada) as a Visiting Scholar on 2000. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Montreal (Canada). Dr. Zhang joined the Cardiology Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins Medicine (2006-2008) under the mentorship of Dr. Eduardo Marban, focusing on the developmental cell biology and electrophysiology of stem cells and cardiomyocytes, and regenerative medicine. He was a Senior Fellow at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (2008-2010), and Staff Scientist at the City of Hope National Medical Center (2010-2011). In 2011, Dr. Zhang joined the Division of Cardiology, University of Washington School of Medicine as a senior Research Scientist, and currently an Instructor of Medicine. Dr. Zhang’s research interests include: cell cycle control and epigenetics of Cardiomyocytes and stem cells for regenerative medicine, electrophysiology, transgenic animal models, single-cell and high-throughput assays in functional genomics. Dr. Zhang’s research work has been published prestigious journals such as AJP, BJP, Circulation, Circulation Research, EMBO Molecular Medicine, JBC, JMCC, PLoS One, PNAS, Stem Cell, Stem Cell Report, etc.
