Introduction to the speaker:
Hugh Smyth holds the Delgado Endowed Professorship. He is the editor in chief of Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy and Chief Scientist of Respira Therapeutics, a startup founded around technologies developed in his lab. His Pharmacy (1995) and Ph.D. degrees (2000) are from the University of Otago, New Zealand. He was research faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill, tenure track faculty at the University of New Mexico. He was the winner of the AAPS New Investigator award for Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technologies (2007) and the PhRMA Foundation New Investigator Award in pharmaceutics (2007). He has given many invited lectures nationally and internationally. He is a member of several editorial boards for journals and professional societies. He has over 65 peer-reviewed publications, is editor of 3 books, numerous book chapters, and more than 18 patents and patent applications.

Introduction to the speaker:
Dr. Smith received his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Texas in 1976. He held several positions in Medical Affairs and Research at the UpJohn Company leading to his appointment as Director of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in Pharmaceutical R&D. In 1989 he was appointed Vice President at Harris Laboratories (A Contract Research Organiztation). He spent several years in senior management of CRO as CEO of Novum, Inc. and InTouch, Inc. In 2000 he joined the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy as Associate Dean for Research. He has published more than 100 research papers and is a Fellow of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientist.
